As I am a resident of England, and only lived temporary abroad, I have a vets already. The food is very easy to come buy and there are a large range of pet stores here too, as well as kennels etc..

We were very pleased with the relocation of our 13 year old collie-lab to Seattle Washington. Communication was prompt and the process for travel by air was nicely organized. Our dog arrived in good condition, a little disoriented but rapidly getting used to her new home. We are most appreciative.

I moved my dog from San Francisco to Paris, France, and had a relatively easy time finding pet care. I found one vet simply by walking down the street and found organic pet bakery location online, who then recommended a great dog walker.

I was looking for a place to board my dog when I go on vacation, and it was very difficult. The price is not what concerns me really, it was the thought of leaving my dog in a kennel for at least a month. When I asked about the kennels here at the vet, I found out that the cages are fairly small, and the animals receive no play time and minimal out time. So I started pet sitting here. I just want to make people aware that there is an alternative to boarding their pets in a kennel, and also, that pet sitters offer more love, attention, and personal care. This is especially important when people are planning on being gone for long periods of time. Most people living here vacation once a year and are gone for at least one month, some people are gone for 3 months and more. That is too much time to leave an animal in a cage at the boarding facilities here. My website is www.abudhabipetsitter.com

No. England is a very dog friendly environment. My dog thinks he is in dog heaven. Everyone who sees him wants to pet him and he is allowed to walk off the leash in the woods without negative commentary from other walkers.

Boarding facilities in Malaysia are normally done via the Vet. The cat will be placed in a rather large cage in a separate room. But there is a lot of noise as there are dogs boarding in adjacent rooms and the smell is related to the indoor closure of dogs.

A word of advice about Qatar and dogs: it is not a good place to have pets here. We got threatened to have the police come to remove our dogs 2 days after behind in our compound and we had to find another compound accepting dogs, which can be challenging in a country where there is a shortage of houses. Nevertheless, we are now settled in a nice compound with a grass area (luxury!!). We didn’t know before coming here that the Muslim religion does not tolerate dogs as they are considered uncleaned because of the way the clean themselves. Locals especially kids are not used to seeing dogs and just want to tease and throw things at them… We live in a compound with westerners so they are OK here. We had to board our girls for a few days and there is a great place in Al Khor called Pampered pets (http://www.ppkdoha.net/index.htm). Steve, the owner dropped off the girls to our house and the pricing is very reasonable : I paid QAR 90/day for the 2 dogs. I do not have a vet yet. I have not been able to find dog treats yet and I have been advised that, if I find some, I should buy the entire stock! There is a good website with some addresses as where to find dog food and accessories, but I haven’t been there yet . I have been in the country about a month…

There are many vets and dog walking services in every neighborhood. Finding pet food is easy in many of the local supermarkets. However, find good organic pet food is more difficult. If one orders by phone or on the internet it will be delivered via courier in a day or two.

I am a British vet in Oman, you have my clinic listed, Tafani Veterinary Clinic. Just to let you know, there is currently no need for a microchip to enter Oman, just the vaccinations, including rabies. I can obtain import permits for anyone that needs one. Louise

Within a few days I was able to find a vet for Lilly and it was just around the corner. Depending on where you live in London, vets seem to be easy to find. The vet we visited was absolutely great and within days she was feeling much better from a respiratory infection.

We were lucky enough to find a retired couple who started a pet sitting company and they babysit the pups while we are at work. They are great! They have helped us with finding a vet

The day Tulip arrived here at #47, after seven days in the gulag, Aunt Mui picked us up and brought us to the “best vet in Petaling Jaya” for a checkup, so we were lucky in that regard. But pet care here is readily available, and within a mile or two from our home there are at least three vets/clinics. Within a mile there are also four pet shops, stretch that out to three miles and add four more, plus a pet hotel and salon. Due to chronic urinary infection, Tulip gets a regular daily dosage of amoxicillin, and I just went to the local pharmacy for that. Although in the States we got it in a chewable pill form, here it is in a powder which I mix a week’s worth at a time, administer to her from a syringe and she licks it right down. The pharmacy that I go to does not require a prescription for that med, or in fact for any of my own meds (except for sleeping aids), although other pharmacies do require one. Doctor friends think that the meds in question require a prescription, but I’m not complaining. Price wise Tulip’s med runs $4/month … it was $30 in the States. All of my meds are a lot cheaper as well, at the very least (without insurance) half of what my co-pay was in the States, and then I was paying a $650/month insurance premium. Here I have health insurance for major medical costs and hospitalization ($650/year!!!), but the day-to-day stuff I just pay out of pocket, which at these prices it is not a problem. Doctor visits (including vets) run between $10 & $15, depending on the issue and treatment. (FYI all prices quoted are in US dollars.)

Pet care in Abu Dhabi UAE is difficult. Vets and especially boarding/grooming are difficult to find. We located two. One is British Vetinary Center – good but expensive and usually accommodation is always taken up in advance. We located NATIONAL VETERINARY HOSPITAL at vetyhosp@emirates.net.ae = email address. Tel = 971-2-446-1628 , Fax = 971-2-446-2548, Mobile = 971-050-446-4910, Ask for Dr. Anwar Shahed, He takes cats, dogs and falcons and provides boarding and grooming. He is located conveniently on 17th Street just off of Airport Road across from the mosque

It was easy, thanks to Pet Relocation contacts. Valeria, who met us at the airport, introduced us to her husband Urii who is an experienced veterinarian. He immediately suggested food supplements for our dogs and was ready to take care of our elderly Golden Vanya. Besides that, Moscow has a number of modern and well equipped veterinarian clinics. Veterinarians make house calls. Finding a good vet in Moscow is not a problem. It may be more different in the other parts of Russia. Generally, people like and take care of their pets here. There are plenty of well educated veterinarians. But further away from the capital city vet supplies and equipment may be limited. Food was not a problem. We brought some of our dogs’ usual dry chow from the States. Gradually we started adding chow which we bought at local pet supply store. For Roy it is Eukanuba and for Vanya – Hill’s diet with lamb and rice for seniors. We could not find exactly the same brands of the dog food as we had in the States, but their new chow is close enough, from well knows brands, good quality. Dietary supplements are also sold in the local pet stores, for example, Omega-3 supplements. Medicine is part of Vanya’s routine for years now. He takes thyroid, epilepsy and allergy medications. We brought a huge supply of everything from the US. However, when the medications run out we may have to make adjustments to the Russian supplies according to our veterinarian’s suggestions. Urii is confident that we’ll be able to keep Vanya healthy. The only problem I have is with the treats. My dogs will do anything for a cookie! But for some reason dog treats are rare here. We even had to bake some ourselves. The treats still can be found, but not in all pet stores.

When I was working on finding my housing, I did the following two things: (1) I asked the Housing Relocation company that we were using to obtain a listing of vets for me, their phone numbers, addresses and the distance from my house. (2) I asked every new person I met during my first few weeks in the country if they had a pet and what vet they used. I found that the personal experience from neighbors and work associates was much more insightful since it was based upon personal experience. They were able to quickly educate me on what to expect and how to manage the relationship with the vet. I learned that I needed to closely manage the needs of my cats in relation to vaccines and health checks and that I should not expect the vet to keep track of this or to notify me when I needed to schedule a check-up. This is very different then my experiences in the US and Canada so it was helpful to learn this before I made a mistake in managing my cats health. We have not boarded our cats and probably will not based upon feeback we have received from people living in the area. However, our housekeeper has watched the cats on a few occasions. While we were away, she comes over to visit the cats, change the litter and provide fresh food and water.

Calgary is incredible with pet stores and pet care facilities. The only trouble in finding care was trying to choose which to go to! Because of the extreme winter temps, there are doggy day care centers all over the place!

The vet here is great, they offer dog obedience classes for the dogs and they are great with the cats. Pet food can be purchased at any of the grocery stores just like in the states. The meds you can get thru the vets offices. Dogs are a little harder to take out due to the religion. You have to keep the dogs close to you at all times, as the Muslims believe that they are dirty animals. At least that is what we have been told.

The people that we rent our Flat from helped with locating a vet for Meggan. A couple of weeks ago, around November 11th, Meggan did get very sick. She contracted like a stomach flew. It was on a Saturday night, and she was sick all night. Sunday morning came and she wasn’t getting better. The neighbor helped me take her to the vet and went with me to speak to the vet (no English). They gave her medicine to settle her stomach and an antibiotic. And, she is back to normal. The next day, I took her back to see the actual vet that owns the clinic and he does speak English to where we could actually communicate. Very good care. He said if I have any other problem be sure to call. They have emergency hours on the weekends and in the night time. Very pet friendly.

This was all rather easy (vet, food, etc.). Dubai has only a couple of hotels/extended stays that allow cats. Plus, with the steady schedule of conferences, finding a room here can often be a nightmare. So, I suggest to research and book very early if you want your pet to stay with you while in temporary housing. We’ve never been comfortable boarding our cats, so we were lucky to have another company employee offer to house Taylor, our cat.
